Tim Burton likes to use the same actors for his films , this consists of the use of Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham.In the following film , Alice in wonderland , Johnny Depp is used because of his quirky personality and emotional acting and not just for being Tim Burtons bestfriend. Although Johnny Depp's part in Alice in wonderland as the mad hatter doesn't have much screen time , he's role was still important in order to bring this version of Alice in wonderland to life by making the audience feel more connected with the characters as Tim Burton felt as though the previous Alice in wonderland didn't connect with the audience.
This was quoted by Tim in an interview;
Johnny Depp, whom Burton first worked with in Edward Scissorhands. “He had that soulful, expressive quality,” says Burton. “Johnny also understands physical humour and movement and things like that. And he’s just got expressive eyes. That’s almost one of the more important things to me.”
Tim Burton also uses Helena Bonham Carter is several films as well as Johnny Depp and they also show in films together.She appeared in Charlie and the chocolate factory,Alice in wonderland, Sweeny Todd, and Corpse's bride.However since Tim Burton and her split after 13 years of being together , she believes she could see herself working with him again.
Helena admitted she could see herself working with him again: 'We really do get on, so that’s good. I understand him very well and he understands me.
Not only does Tim Burton use specific actors, you can also identify a one of his films through he's unique use of makeup.In most of his films , actors can be seen to have pale faces with heavy , dark eye makeup which shows a gothic aspect of someone who doesn't care much for appearances.In this photo below Johnny Depp's makeup helps bring his character to life with the use of contour to chizzle his cheek bones but making him pale gives him the ill, gothic affect.
Furthermore,Tim Burton is noticed for his love of gothic/eccentric horror through his settings and backgrounds.Tim Burton likes to focus on the victorian era which he has projected his own twisted aesthetic.In each setting, he is able to find an element of pure evil as well as something which is just as pure.Tim Burton likes to use light and dark as a contrast ,but uses light to show off certain aspects in the scene.
